Most people are unhappy with the way their smile looks. Cosmetic dentistry has answers to them. Smile designing can be ideal for correcting the way the smile looks. In order to beautify a smile, it has to be first recorded, assessed, analyzed and then corrected. Gums that are exposed need to be concealed.
When a person consults a dentist for smile designing, he should be aware of what the out come has to be. With this in idea, the dentist examines the teeth and performs a series of tests on the teeth like evaluating the bite, the color and shape of the teeth. Then by using designing software and incorporating the patient's desires, the dentist creates an image to show the patient how the smile would look like after the completion of the treatment.
Smile designing can be done to correct severely malformed or discolored teeth. Discoloration can be corrected by teeth whitening. This is the easiest and least expensive of cosmetic dentistry methods. Tetracycline staining may be difficult to remove by this method. This can be corrected using dental crowns.
Full mouth reconstruction or rehabilitation can be done to teeth damaged due to severe bruxism. The bite can be re-established and sensitivity eliminated by using tooth crowns and occlusal guards can be used during night time to discontinue the habit.
Diastema, malformed teeth, crowding of teeth etc can all be corrected with veneers and laminates. Veneers and laminates are a conservative approach of enhancing the look of teeth. They are a thin shell made of porcelain or composite resin and can be cemented to the front surface of the tooth. Veneers are used to cover discoloration, cracks and chipping in teeth and to change the shape or size of the teeth.
Dental implants are used as replacements of missing teeth. They comprise of titanium screws that are implanted into the jaw. The artificial teeth can then be placed on the teeth. They look and feel- like natural teeth |
